Who is third party liability cover for?
Laka's third party liability cover is for any cyclist who is a UK resident and over the age of 18. This includes commuters, couriers, racers, weekend warriors and every other cyclist in between! Unfortunately we can't cover you during professional races.
What does liability insurance cover do and when do I need it?
Laka’s Third Party Liability Insurance will protect you in the event that you are responsible for injuring or killing someone, or damaging their property whilst you’re out riding, racing or working on your bike. This could happen if you hit the wing mirror of a car, crash into a fellow racer or spectator, collide with a pedestrian or you cause a car to crash whilst out on the road. What types of races does my liability policy cover me during?
You will be covered at all times whilst on your bike including whilst racing in a road race, Triathlon or Duathlon, crit, fixed, track, CX, MTB cross country or downhill race and every other race in between! The only exception that is you won't be covered during any races in which you are competing as a professional. We would consider you to be competing as a professional during any race in which you earn an appearance fee for participating or are paid a salary to participate and / or any race
Will I be covered if I use my bike for work?
Yes– we love people who use their bikes for work, including our cargo bikers and couriers! But we can’t cover you whilst you're working the USA or Canada and any other countries operating under US / CAN jurisdiction or law.
What are the cover limitations?
You won't be covered during any races in which you are competing as a professional. You won’t be covered for damaging the property of or causing injury to any of your employees or members of your family normally residing with you You’re covered whilst you’re travelling anywhere in the world for up to 60 days per trip; however there are some cover restrictions in North America, read about them here(http://
What are the cover restrictions in North America?
Your Laka liability policy won't cover you if you're using your bike for any profession, occupation or business activities whilst in the USA or Canada, the United States of America. Your Laka liability policy won’t cover you for any settlements made within countries which operate under the laws of the USA or Canada. This is because the cost to defend or pay a claim would be much higher under the laws of the USA or Canada which would mean that we would need to charge you much more for the cover
I’m a member of British Cycling / CTC, do I still need liability cover?
Certain types of British Cycling memberships do include third party liability insurance; however no British Cycling membership (including race membership) will cover you for your liability to a fellow British Cycling member during any race, time trial or timed event. CTC (Cycling UK) membership does include liability cover but this will not cove
What if I need to make a liability claim?
If you need to notify us of a liability claim, firstly log into our web app; https://app.laka.co.uk/cover and follow the link for "claims". We'll then ask you for some details of whats happened and for copies of any correspondence you might have received from a third party. We'll then hand you over to our legal partners, Caytons Law who will take things from there.
How can you do this for free!?
Our aim at Laka is to offer the fairest insurance around! We think it's fair that if you let us email you from time to time with great Laka Club Perks, that we should give you something in return.
